  4. THANK YOU! to our GREAT PASTOR for such GREAT sermons. I look forward to the 40 DAYS OF VICTORY SERIES. ALL of his sermons have been GREAT! It is hard to pick a series of sermons to be your favorite because they have ALL been such a blessing and touched my Christian walk! It is such a blessing to get copies and go back and listen to his sermons. You always gather something that slipped by you in the service. I can promise anyone that it will greatly bless and enrich your walk with GOD! Let's continue to lift Dr. Avant up in prayer and ALL of the great staff that God has given us at First West. We sometimes forget that they are HUMAN also, and are not immune to the 'tactics' that Satan likes to temp them with just as he does each of us!

  5. Thank you Dr Avant for being here...Thank you God for sending Dr Avant here...I can't even imagine going to any other churh! I am so looking forward to this series to see what God is going to do in my life. I retired from one job after 31 years and just graduated from nursing school Friday night and going through a divorce after a 32 year marriage....so I am looking forward and not back because I know God is REAL! And I know he has plans for me to serve HIM through this church. This series could not come at a better time for me. I just can't wait...I'm already worried that I am going to miss something when I can't be at church because of my new job (having to work on Sunday sometimes).

  6. Dr Avant's sermons are so real and personel. Knowing he and other church personal have the same problems and face the same temptations we all face just make it seem more like a big family. I don't want to miss a sunday hearing 40 days of victory. I can't wait to see what this does and where it takes me in my life. Having this study in life group is a great benefit too, so if you're not in a life group GET THERE!

  7. As a new Christian I have to be reminded daily that God is in control and that He is faithful. My daughter Shannon, many of you know her and see her growing in Christ and receiving the joy that only He can give. Her life changes and testamonies are given through the grace and glory of our Father above. And I am so proud that she is sharing her joy with others. As her Mother I confess that what she is experiencing is not from what I taught, it is only from God. I would like to share a lesson I just realized or paid attention to today 3/16/09. (1 Cor.10:13)Jesus, at this very moment, is protecting you, Evil must pass through Christ before it can touch you. And God will "never let you be pushed past your limit; He will always be there to help you come through it. In my Bible the New Living Translation Life Application study Bible it describes this verse. In a culture filled with moral depravity and sin inducing pressures, Paul encouraged the Corinthians about temptation. He said that 1. temptations happen to everyone, so don't feel like you've been singled out. 2. others have resisted temptation and so can you; 3. any temptation can be resisted because God will show you a way out. God will help you in resisting temptation by helping you to recognize those people and situations that give you trouble. Run from anything you know is wrong. Choose to do only what is right, Pray constantly for God's help and seek friends who love God and can offer help when you are tempted. Running from a tempting situation is your first step on the way to victory. Being the immature Christian that I am, I am just seeing these things and my prayer is that I will be able to break a distructive cycle in my family, and our grandchildren will know Our Lord and His ways. 2 Thimothy 3:16-17 All Scripture is inspired by God and is useful to teach us what is true and to make us realize what is wrong in our lives. It straightens us out and teaches us to do what is right. It is God's way of preparing us in every way, fully equipped for every good thing God wants us to do. I am so thankful for our Church, our Wonderful Pastor John and wife,Donna and our caring and always supporting Staff, and my God sent Life Group, Watson,Wilbanks Ladies. Lily Jackson
